Community Works is a nonprofit

arts and education organization

founded in 1990 with the mission to bridge schools and communities, enrich educational curricula and celebrate neighborhood cultures and histories.

Collaborating with a diverse network of community-based artists and groups, we annually serve 200,000 people at 200 public schools, 60 neighborhood centers and cultural venues across New York City. We offer a rich continuum of educational and arts experiences including:

Workshops in a variety of art forms.

Exhibits honoring community history and culture.

Community Matters NYC (CMNYC) is a network of institutions that celebrates upper Manhattan's history, culture and connections to the local and global communities through performing arts events, workshops and multifaceted public programs and exhibits for intergenerational audiences.
