Community Connections
COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS workshops and residencies bring Community Works artist-educators directly into schools, afterschool programs and neighborhood centers to train young people in theater, dance, music, literary arts, and the visual arts. Programs also focus on diversity, leadership development, peer-mentoring and conflict resolution. In addition to youth service programs, Community Connections also provides support to teachers and after school educators through professional development training, curriculum materials and technical assistance in replicating model programs. Community Works' extraordinary roster of over 200 professional artists are masters in their field and experienced educators. Our artists, who are actively involved in their communities, represent the ethnic and racial diversity of New York City and are committed to passing on their talent and knowledge to the next generation. Our artist educators use interactive methodologies involving a broad and exciting array of art forms to teach students. A trademark to our work is that we stress the dynamics of interaction between individuals and their immediate neighborhoods and world communities. Community is at the heart of our programming and defines our services.
Standards Based Learning Through the ArtsOur artist residency and workshop programs feature a series of culturally relevant initiatives designed to provide students with opportunities to create art, use the materials of the arts, and understand/appreciate art. Our programs use a projects-based approach that ties arts activities (which always include a culminating event or art product/exhibition) to the English language arts and other core content area standards. Our services align and support the goals of both PROJECT READ AND PROJECT ARTS. Community Works is a NYC Board of Education Contracted Vendor (Vendor# COM420000 Contract# 6159314). Our residency rates start at $300/day and include planning and all necessary materials. Professional Development sessions start at $250.
