OVERVIEW
Multicultural Connections is a lively and engaging initiative designed by Community Works that integrates the visual and performing arts in a detailed study of various community cultures. The program delves into the traditions, folkways, mores, traditions, crafts, and arts of different cultures. Students can attend linked cultural performances under Community Works’ Theater Connections Program (at nominal costs per ticket) or performances brought directly to the school through Theater-to-Go.

  • ACTIVITIES
    Multicultural Connections engages pupils in the following types of high quality inquiry-based learning activities:

  • historical research and writing
  • creative writing
  • dance, music, theater, and visual arts projects
  • storytelling and poetry
  • creation of student performances as a culminating activity

  • Standards Connection
    Multicultural Connections promotes standard-bearing work related to the following: Reading: E1c- read and comprehend informational materials; Writing: E2C - produce a narrative account; Speaking and Listening: E3c- prepare and deliver an individual presentation. Project staff connect the cultural activities to the English language arts and social studies standards. Multicultural Connections also supports the goals of PROJECT READ in the elementary schools and the New York State Arts standards and PROJECT ARTS goals and objectives.
