Theater To Go
Our Theater To Go program brings multicultural dance, music, storytelling, and theater performances directly into schools, community centers, museums, and neighborhood sites. Theater To Go offers many of the events in the Theater Connections program, but often on a smaller and more intimate scale. Community Works presents over 70 multicultural performing arts ensembles from throughout New York City. These groups present highly interactive, professionally produced, and affordable performances, and include everything from Shakespeare plays and African storytelling, to Afro-Haitian Percussion and Latin Jazz ensembles. Community Works staff works individually with school districts and community groups to determine their needs, to match these needs with artists/events offered, and to plan follow up and ancillary activities such as discussions with the artists, special study guides, and related classroom activities. We also work specifically with schools and community groups to link these magical performances to school curriculum and program interests. Theater To Go events can also be directly linked to any of our Community Connections artist residency programs by bringing an artist/educator to your classroom or community site before and after the performance to enliven and enrich the experience. In the fall of 2003, Community Works' inaugural Theater To Go brochure will make it easier than ever to bring the wonder and magic of the theater arts to the youth and adults served by your organization. The brochure will contain information on more than 70 national and New York City multi-ethnic performing arts ensembles and feature easy to order instructions. For more information on the Theater To Go brochure, descriptions of specific companies and their repertoire, or to schedule an event, please contact Community Works at nj@communityworksnyc.org, or 212.459.1854. |
