Gospel song and music
Under the direction of the legendary Reverend James Allen, the ARC Gospel Choir will move you to tears- tears of joy and love. Made up of former drug abusers, the choir of Addicts Rehabilitation Center sings with a power that is limitless. This group of 32 singers knows what it means to be given a second chance in life, and will bring new energy and life to any audience! Their inspirational songs and melodious voices will evoke stomping, shouting and an appreciation of life's gifts. A rousing good time! Can be tailored to any age group.

Latin Jazz
Son and heir to the throne of Latin Jazz giant Chico O'Farill, Arturo serves as the musical director of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra and is widely considered to be one of the greatest musicians of his generation. Aided by a host of New York City's most gifted musicians, Arturo's technically skilled yet fiery brand of Latin Jazz will bring audiences face to face with all of the passion, rhythm and joy that the best of music has to offer. A widely respected educator, Arturo uses his music to find ways to transcend international or racial boundaries and spread the gospel of jazz. Can be tailored to any age group.

Afro Dominican Music
This Afro-Dominican flokloric group uses painted instruments, bold costumes and Spanish lyrics to teach and demonstrate the African-influenced music of the Dominican Republic. Under the direction of Boni Raposo, audiences learn about rhythms known as Palos and Salves, Gaga and Sancocho, and are introduced to instruments like panderos, guira, maracas, and lambi. Children and adults alike delight in the call and response style of singing and storytelling presented by the group. Can be tailored to any age group.

Theatrical Music
Nationally renowned musicians, the Bronx Arts Ensemble represent the marriage of art and education in its highest form. Employing mime and unparalleled instrumental skill, this wonderful ensemble of professional musicians presents interactive tales such as Babar, Peter and the Wolf, Jack and the Beanstalk, Tikki Tikki Tembo and the Flying Head, and others. Audiences are introduced to the instruments found in the woodwind family or a chamber orchestra, and then taught to associate the instruments with characters in the stories. The tales are related in a very interactive fashion, with a constant give and take between the performers and the audience. Can be tailored to any age group.

African American spirituals, slave songs, plantation songs
The mystery and history of the African American spiritual, slave song and plantation song will be told in a rousing performance by singer, musician and storyteller, Calvin Earl. Mr. Earl will tell in fascinating detail how these songs came out of the necessity to speak of hardship and pain while in captivity, and how they became the method of teaching future generations and healing wounds. Audiences will learn how to "feel" and sing these songs, experiencing the ecstatic emotions of communicating through a music whose rhythmic capabilities have moved people the world over. Learn the music and song of the enslaved people of America and help pass on this oral legacy! Can be tailored to any age group.

Caribbean Steel Pan and Classical Music
CASYM, or, the Caribbean American Sports and Cultural Youth Movement, founded in 1983 by William Jones, is an extraordinary group of young people from Brooklyn who perform on steel pan instruments not only the music of the Caribbean Islands, but also classical music that matches the standard of a full symphonic orchestra. The members of this group are part of an organization that promotes diversity and excellence among young people, and their awesome talent makes for an uplifting and exciting educational demonstration! Dominican Music
Coco Merenson introduces audiences to the musical style Son: music that was at its height long ago in the Dominican Republic and Cuba. An explosive Bronx-based Dominican musical ensemble, with Juan de Jesus Coco at the helm, they use guitars, bongos, trumpets, guira and other instruments to add a new flavor to an old form while teaching an appreciation of old and modern instruments. Coco Merenson and his Ensemble are at the forefront of keeping this important form of music alive and well. Can be tailored to all ages.

Latin Music
Timbales master Ray Cruz heads up Cruz Control, bringing some of the hottest Latin musicians to any audience! With an ensemble that features bongo, trombone, flute, violin, bass, piano, and conga players, Cruz Control performs the music of swing and big band with a Latin verve. Charanga, Salsa, and a variety of Latin Jazz styles provide just a glimpse of the musical forms that are brought to the stage. Furthermore, the musicians of Cruz Control are careful to make certain that each instrument and featured musical style is thoroughly explained. Can be tailored to any age group.

Congolese Rumba/ Soukoss Music
Dominic Kanza and the African Rhythm Machine hail from the Congo and bring the high energy Soukouss sounds of their homeland with them. Based on the rhythmic ideas of Afro-Cuban Rumba, Soukouss is driven by warm liquid vocals layered over harmoniously melodic guitars and driving, infectious percussion. With a vibrant performance style that includes background information on how this sound developed, Dominic Kanza and the African Rhythm Machine are the new ambassadors of this globally popular music and will have audiences of all ages dancing to the sounds of contemporary Africa. Gospel Music
Directed by Bettye Forbes, the Ebony Ecumenical Ensemble presents the truly American sound of Gospel in its purest and most spiritually enlightening form. The nationally renown Ensemble, featuring the illustrious musician Joseph Joubert, is an intergenerational, multi-denominational group that teaches audiences about the history of African American vocals, from its African Roots to Gospel. World Music and Percussion
Heritage O.P. is a world beat vocal, percussion, and orchestral ensemble which interprets the rich cultural traditions of the glorious Diaspora rhythms of Africa, South America, the Caribbean, and the affirmative call and response field hollers of the American South, in a way that is accessible to all ages. Representing a path to renewal, transformation and the greater self, Heritage O.P. speaks to the convictions of the heart and soul in ways that are uplifting, inspiring and festive. Latin Jazz
The music of the Hymie and Company Latin Jazz Ensemble is characterized by a blend of cultural styles from the Americas. Led by dynamic trumpeter and percussionist Hymie Rivera, this ensemble combines Latin Jazz with Brazilian tones and rhythm and blues to create a sound that is wholly original. This fusing of pulsating rhythms and percussion with the good feelings and spirit of Brazilian carnival will have young and old alike dancing the samba! Can be tailored to any age group.

Latin Jazz
The Ibrahim Gonzalez Latin Jazz Quintet brings the full spectrum of Spanish Caribbean musical styles, including Mambo, Big Band, African, Spanish and Taino rhythms, to audiences with a mastery earned from years of study and performing. In addition to the history of instruments such as the trumpet, piano, bass, drums and congas, Gonzalez and his band will share the music of some of the world's most cherished musicians. Audiences will get up and dance to the music of Tito Puente, Celia Cruz and other Latin-Jazz greats! Can be tailored to any age group.

Urban Theatre
A Harlem-based youth leadership and performing arts organization developed under the guidance of celebrated producer Voza Rivers and director Jamal Joseph, IMPACT employs various elements of the performing arts and the dynamics of leadership training to develop and empower their peers. IMPACT tackles issues and situations that are important to today's youth, through high-energy song, dance, and spoken word. Full of non-stop, positive energy with a hip-hop sensibility, the artists of IMPACT are sure to inspire, motivate and encourage today's youth. American Jazz
JazzReach's highly engaging, all-original educational outreach programs aim to give young people access to jazz and cultivate a greater awareness and appreciation of the music's vitality and eminent place in American and world culture. The Metta Quintet, JazzReach's dynamic resident ensemble composed of soprano/alto/tenor saxophones, bass, piano and drums, brings all of the artistry, excitement, innovation and historical importance of jazz music to its audiences. American Jazz
An amazing group of teenage musicians, the Jazz Gents have played on their own and with the some of the best of both modern and classical Jazz artists. Led by manager Bob Barker, the Jazz Gents play with such expertise and enthusiasm, you will be astounded that they are a youth ensemble! Whether your preference tends toward classic jazz, the blues or acid jazz, the Jazz Gents will have audiences swinging in the aisles. Can be tailored to any age group.

Latin Jazz
Joe Cuba, legendary conga player, band leader extraordinaire and master of the "boogaloo" sound, will delight audiences with the Latin rhythms that he has perfected during his more than 40 years as a musician. Drawing directly from his Nuyorican roots, Cuba's band will take people of all ages on an upbeat tour of Afro-Cuban jazz, Salsa and other forms of Latin music. American Jazz
Watch the trailblazers and legends of American music brought to life right before your eyes by the legendary Joey Morant and his Ensemble. Seasoned veteran of classically American styles of music, Morant effortlessly breathes new air into the lives and stories of musical icons. Morant offers Jazz Giants, a tribute to such legends as Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Billie Strayhorn, and his personal mentor, Count Basie. Another exciting option is Catfish Stew, an intimate look at the development of Blues music and its huge influence on American culture from its hand in the creation of Negro Spirituals to providing the blueprint for Country & Western music.

Opera
Professional singers, beautiful costume, live musical accompaniment and incredible staging bring opera to life for audiences of all ages. Gypsy Queen Productions presents La Piccola Opera and their abridged versions of three of the world's most famous operas: Carmen, La Traviata, and The Barber of Seville. La Piccola compellingly maximizes its educational impact by including English narration alongside native languages to allow audiences to see how music conveys emotion, character and plot. Multicultural Folk Music
The fusion of African, Native American and European traditions known as Afro-Cuban culture is stirringly presented by this fabulous intergenerational, multi-national group, led by Felix Sanabria. Los Afortunados presents the folkloric dance and song traditions of Cuba through material sung in Spanish, English, and several African diasporic dialects. The musical traditions of Rumba and Son, with the Clave as the integral beat of both of these styles, are presented using a wonderful variety of instruments. Learn the history of these incredible musical styles and instruments as explained by these seasoned performers. Can be tailored to any age group.

Puerto Rican Music
Formed by National Heritage Fellow Juan Gutierrez-Rodriguez, Los Pleneros celebrates the African heritage of Puerto Rican culture through music and dance, namely, the traditions of Bomba and Plena. This incredibly interactive show is made up of musicians from three generations who use a host of exciting instruments, such as the barrel shaped bombas, the hand held plenas, and the cuatro (a small 10-stringed guitar), and a wonderful call and response style to capture the audience. Los Pleneros take pride in using their artistic talent to teach about Puerto Rican culture and have performed at such venues as Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. They get great pleasure out of the excitement the audience shows when everyone ends up dancing in the aisles! Can be tailored to any age group.

South African music
The passion of South African music and culture is proudly displayed by professional actor, singer and musician, Lucky Ngema and his Ensemble. As a child performer in The Lion King, Lucky learned the secrets of entertainment at an early age and brings this knowledge to every dimension of his work today. Audiences are wowed as Lucky and his ensemble use traditional South African music to encourage the youth of today to connect with their ancestral roots and celebrate the richness of their cultures. Native American / African Music
An exploration of the relationships between the indigenous music of Africa and the Americas is what this world-famous ensemble, led by master percussionist, marimbist, and vocalist Valerie Naranjo offers. Mandara's traditional music combines instruments from Ghana, the Ivory Coast, the Caribbean, and South Africa to create a sound that is universal. Mandara also delves into the music and cultures of the Native American community with a particular concentration on the concepts of healing and bonding through music. Fascinating African and Native American instruments such as the gyil (of the mallet family), lon (double conical "talking" drum), kokolele (mouth bow), taos drums, jingle mats, reed bundles, rattles, and more are played with their history and construction explained. Chinese Folk Music
Enchanting musical stories and images of Chinese folk life and culture is what Music from China brings to its audiences. Traditional instruments such as the erhu (2-string fiddle), dizi (bamboo flute), yangquin (hammered dulcimer), pipa (lute), ruan (moon guitar) and various percussion instruments are introduced to the audience and used to create images of animals, birds, flowers, and more, in the minds of the listener. The truly interactive performances ask the audience to identify the animals, flowers and images heard in the musical pieces. The tonality of Chinese music and its history are discussed as well. Afro-Caribbean Music
Retumba means "resounding," and the blend of Afro-Caribbean music that this all-female group performs will certainly stay in the minds and hearts of all those who hear it. Retumba's highly interactive performances present intense instrumentation, melodic folk singing, and high energy dancing from such places as Cuba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Haiti, West Africa, and Brazil to offer a better understanding of the commonality that exists among peoples of different nations. They have appeared at many famous venues including Alice Tulley Hall and Avery Fisher Hall, and have always impressed audiences with their blend of artistry that celebrates humanity and the power of working together. Pan African Music
With a long and dynamic history, the Spirit Ensemble has established itself as the primary source for music that traverses the African Diaspora. The enchanting sounds of the mbira, kora, steel pan and bamboo flute compose the essence of Spirit's sound and provide the foundation for rhythmic travels. Each member of the ensemble is a master percussionist who has dedicated his life to the study and sharing of this music, and the magnitude of their devotion is evident to all who experience their performances. Japanese Drumming Music
Taikoza is a thunderous Japanese percussion group that uses taiko drums – large barrel-like drums that produce a magnificent sound, shakuhachi and fue – bamboo flutes, and the Koto – a magnificent 13 stringed instrument, to create a fabulous performance of music and dance based on Japanese forms traditionally performed at festivals. The audience is introduced to all of the instruments, and learns the history of the festivals they represent. Beautiful traditional costumes give the performances an exciting visual effect that accentuates the powerful sounds coming from the trained musicians. Indian Music and Dance
By combining ancient and modern traditions, Trilok Fusion Arts advances a new approach to Indian Classical Dance, Modern Jazz and other forms of traditional Indian arts. This group of international artists' belief in the healing power of art and its ability to create a more peaceful world infuses their work. Through beautiful costumes, live music and an ancient majestic Indian dance called Bharatanatyam, Trilok Fusion brings an artistic legacy to their audiences with grace. Learn the roots of Latin and Afro-Cuban music from this dynamic group from Brooklyn! Professional musician Willie Villegas and his ensemble share their mastery of instruments such as the congas, bass, timbales and more. A full description of the history of the instruments and musical styles, including Salsa, is included in the performance to ensure that audiences walk away with the most rewarding experience possible. Theatre Music
Specializing in multicultural programs that involve storytelling, singing and music, Yaffa embodies the definition of the term World Music. A small sampling of the group's many programs includes Griots in Concert, a storytelling/drumming performance that deals with themes of self-esteem and empowerment, ecology, and family while drawing from the rich folkloric oral history of stories from Africa, the Caribbean and the Americas; the Music of the Diaspora, a program that teaches audiences the many forms of modern music that began in Africa before spreading to areas of the world such as Brazil, Cuba, the Caribbean and the United States; and the fêted Holiday Show, which celebrates Christmas, Three Kings Day, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. West African Music
Be amazed by these veterans of the world famous Ballet Africains! Thrilling dance, gorgeous costumes and a dazzling array of percussion instruments introduce you to Guinea and Manding culture. Virtuoso djembe drumming, dynamic synchronized drum dances and incredible acrobatics bring the magnificence of West African culture alive in a fabulous burst of sight and sound. A dancer of the highest caliber, Abou Sylla will wow audiences with his mastery of the balafon, a fantastic West African wooden xylophone and main melodic instrument of the nation of Guinea. An accomplished griot (storyteller) and singer, Abou delivers stories with magnificent flair in a style that everyone loves! Can be tailored to any age group.

Traditional and Contemporary African Dance
Under the artistic leadership of dancer and choreographer Adia Whitaker, Ase connects traditional forms and aesthetics of African dance with modern day models. The dance component of this artist collective consists of young people of color performing pieces that represent the diversity of African Diasporic dance and addressing the human experience. Featuring everything from Haitian to hip-hop, and accompanied by live and/or recorded music and featuring song and spoken word as well, these dancers perform with unmatched passion and grace. Mexican Dance
Dynamic ambassadors of Mexican culture directed by the distinguished Yloy Ybarra, Ballet Fiesta Mexicana uses spectacular dancers and musicians in full, traditional costume, to offer an intimate view of the folk dances of Mexico. Among the dances demonstrated and explained by Ballet Fiesta are Jarabe Tapatio: the Mexican Hat Dance, La Raspa: a traditional Mexican cowboy dance, and an Aztec Dance. The ensemble's incredible Mariachi band provides the dancers with musical accompaniment and introduces the audience to the various instruments used to create the authentic Mexican sound. Multicultural Dance
"Do something to make people happy!" This is what Féraba, a term from the Sousou people of Guinea, West Africa means. With award-winning artists from such places as the United States, Austria, Africa and Japan, Féraba makes all the instruments they play and blends African movements and rhythms with the percussive sounds and tones of tap dance. Audiences learn about instruments such as the balafon (wooden xylophone), djembe, doun doun, and other drums. Féraba encourages global tolerance and understanding and have created a number of performances that showcase cultures not ordinarily seen in local arenas. One special program, their Global Holiday Celebration, commemorates the traditions of underrepresented cultures. Spanish Dance
This passionate company introduces the music and dance found in Spanish Flamenco and the Afro-Caribbean roots of Salsa. Through comparisons and historical presentations of the art forms, Flamenco Latino blend Hispanic and Spanish cultural styles to present a unique performance that is visually dazzling and audibly magnificent. Their lecture/demonstrations explain the backgrounds of the different cultures involved, and give demonstrations of relevant dance and musical techniques, including instrumentation and singing.

African and African American Dance
Led by Artistic Director Abdel R. Salaam, Forces of Nature takes audiences on a journey through the African Diaspora to explore the many influences these diverse cultures have had on American Dance. This incredible group of dancers and musicians brings to its audiences a blend of modern dance, traditional West African dance, martial arts, and a mix of live and recorded music. A staple among holiday performances is this group's dynamic Kwanzaa celebration. All who are looking for an exhilarating experience that demonstrates the historical relationship between Africa and its descendants should look no further than the special programs presented by Forces of Nature. American Hip Hop Culture- Dance/Music
Hip-Hop history comes to life with this collective of young performers led by legendary artists Kwikstep and Rockafella. They bring high-energy, uplifting, wholesome edu-tainment to audiences of all ages. Hailing from the Bronx, the birthplace of hip-hop, these performers have mastered the four major points of hip-hop and use these talents to expose minds to the positive roots and practices of dancing, dj-ing, rapping, and graffiti art. Full Circle features a female dancer, poet, singer, who sheds light on the positive role that women can and do play in hip-hop culture. This interactive show encourages the audience to show their skills as well and is informative for all who want to know the roots of this worldwide phenomenon. Can be tailored to any age group.

South African Dance
Led by dancer, choreographer, actor and teacher Sduduzo Ka-Mbili, Juxtapower celebrates the music, dance and beauty of his native South Africa. Created to spread the great diversity, splendor and relevance of South African culture through education and entertainment, Juxtapower incorporates gumboot and Zulu styles, as well as modern songs and dances in a dynamic and joyous way. The passion and flair of this troupe will be an inspiration to all audiences.

Indian Dance
Wearing bells and brilliant costumes, the Kathak Ensemble artists, guided by co-founder Janaki Patrik, perform folk and classical Indian dance and music and lead audiences through a marvelous Indian experience. Holidays celebrated in India, such as Republic Day and Divali (Festival of Lights) are connected with American history and personalities, including Martin Luther King, Jr. India, which feeds one of New York City's fastest-growing immigrant populations, stands center stage in this entertaining educational program. The Kathak Ensemble & Friends/CARAVAN, Inc. takes both children and adults on a rhythmic journey through the Indian subcontinent, with dance, music, artifacts, costumes and audience participation as the main forms of transportation.

Maori (Native New Zealand) Dance
This one of a kind, internationally traveled Maori dance company, whose name means "A cloak from Heaven," offers a fascinating look into the development of Maori culture. Using music, dance and humor, Kahurangi presents historical stories and mythical legends that trace the journey of Maori people from their ancestral homeland of Hawaiki to their eventual settling in what was later to become New Zealand. The performers appear in full costume as they teach about each of the islands involved in their mesmerizing journey, including Samoa, Tahiti, Hawaii and the Cook Islands.

Native American Dance
Through imaginative, uplifting dance, and vibrant costume, this striking company highlights the culture and history of the Iroquois, Ojibway, Blackfoot, Cree and Lakota peoples. The troupe represents many tribes throughout Canada, and their presentation reflects the choreographic and musical heritage of the First Nations peoples of North America. Animated narration explains the social, geographic, historic and cultural backgrounds of the dances and musical styles presented.

Afro- Caribbean music and dance
Through masterful and highly emotional dancing and drumming, the Kotoko Society performs the musical style Sankofa – a term used to mean looking back to the past and gleaning knowledge that will help people in times to come. Representing the nations of Ghana, Nigeria, Panama, Trinidad, and the United States, among others, this world-renowned family of musicians raises cultural awareness among all people. Playing over 500 traditional and modern instruments, the Kotoko society will amaze audiences with its musicianship. The Dinizulu African Dancers, Drummers and Singers, featured on stage and television, introduce audiences to traditional culture of African nations such as South Africa, Nigeria and Liberia through tantalizing dance, music and song.

Korean Dance
With a dazzling display of traditional style, this marvelous ensemble cultivates and disseminates Korean cultural arts in the United States. Performers share their skills in the arts of traditional dance through the fan dance, drum dance, masked dance, and others. The audience learns folk songs in the minyo style, and hears the magic of the kayagum, the 12-string zither along with a variety of percussion instruments. Gloriously colorful costumes complete the authentic feel of the performance by giving it a visual grandeur that rivals the talents of the performers.

West African Dance
Members of the powerful West African dance and music troupe, Mane Kadang hail from the diverse nations of Senegal, Guinea, the Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone and Burkino Faso. Blending the diverse flavors of these different nations and cultures, these talented performers come together to create one family bound by their music, artistic creativity and love of West African culture. Founder and lead musician Maguette Camara incorporates traditional West African instruments such as the balafon, the kora, the djembe drum, the doun doun drum, sorouba, sabar and bougarabou into the infectious mix that will instantly transport audiences to the troupe's beloved Africa. The Kotchegna Dance Company, using magnificent masks, stilts, and drummers galore brings the mystery and majesty of the Ivory Coast to enraptured audiences. Choreographer and founder Vado Diamande is dedicated to passing on the oral tradition of Ivory Coast dances, and does so in a magnificent way. Together, these two companies are magical!

Carribean Dance
The Marie Brooks Pan-Caribbean Dance Theatre uses vibrant, self–made costumes, soulful music, and awesome movement to immerse audiences in the cultures of Martinique, Guadeloupe and Trinidad. Under the guidance of world famous dancer/choreographer Marie Brooks, these young performers have traveled across the western hemisphere to learn from indigenous peoples how to tell stories through dance, and then convey their inspirations to an awestruck audience. Respect for one another and one's environment is a lesson to be learned!

Chinese Dance
Presenting a combination of ancient Chinese and modern dance to people of all ages, the award winning, multi-racial troupe, the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company will delight and amaze. They perform beautiful folk dances and awesome martial arts pieces in full, splendid costume, and explain the origins and inspirations of their pieces. Included in their repertoire are the larger than life Lion Dance, swirling silk ribbons, and the fan dance. Audience members will be fascinated by the full spectrum of Chinese dance and movement presented by this nationally known troupe. Their Dragon Tale show is inspired by traditional Chinese festivals and rituals and is wonderful for the holiday season or any time.

Afro-Brazilian Dance
Nego Gato, meaning "Black Cat" in Portuguese, is the name given to Jose Sena, the energetic leader of this ensemble of Afro-Brazilian dancers, percussionists and capoeira artists. Believing that dancing and drumming always exist together, the company amazes the crowd with their expert movement and sense of rhythm. In From the Congo to Brazil, Nego Gato teaches Afro-Brazilian folkloric traditions through an engrossing music and movement presentation that absolutely demands audience participation in both the dancing and the playing of the instruments. Nego Gato is also known for their presentation of a show that introduces the polyrhythmic sounds of Salvador, the capital city of Bahia, Brazil.

Modern African American Dance
Master choreographer Obediah Wright brings his passionate dance, voice and music to audiences of all ages. A wonderful teacher, Obediah imparts knowledge through all styles of dance, spoken word, song and costume. He and his dancers comment on the rich legacy of African experience past, present and future, and offer pieces that touch on the lives of important people such as Martin Luther King Jr. Their dances call to the spirit of the ancestors and bring to the stage an amazing experience of life and history.

Native American Dance
This beautifully costumed troupe, led by Cliff Mathias, demonstrates the music and dance of Native American nations from the Southwest, Northern Plains and Eastern Woodlands. Always using live music, Red Hawk presents traditional stories and dances in a modern style that makes for a fascinating and enjoyable show. The glorious dances are explained in terms of their history and significance, and will magically bring audiences to another world.

African American Dance
Young people aged ten to sixteen make up the dance ensemble of the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation. Trained by Baba Chuck Davis and Artistic Director Peggy Austin, this incredible company presents a varied repertoire of Dunham, African, modern, ballet, tap, jazz and contemporary styles of dance. Students of world culture, these young dancers have trained and danced with companies from many African nations, Cuba and Haiti. They have true insight into the meaning and history of their dances, and perform them in full, authentic costume. They have performed all over New York City, and are a source of great pride for Brooklyn.

Multicultural Dance
Best known for their works that creatively explore the struggles of people of color, this multi-ethnic company has been performing incredible dance pieces for audiences the world over for 30 years. Blending several dance styles, such as modern, jazz, and various ethnic styles, this dance troupe brings a novel perspective on the place of dance in the cultural landscape. This talent is exhibited in their unique demonstrations on the relationships between dance, music, sports, poetry, and other art forms. Of special interest are their innovative pieces that celebrate the contributions and explore the struggles of historical and literary figures, such as Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King, Jr., Langston Hughes and others.

African American Dance
Called the "Godmother of Tap" and the "Grand Dame of Dance", the legendary Ruth Williams brings over 50 years of dancing and teaching experience to the performance arena through her brilliant ensemble. Since starting her first dance school in 1947, Ms. Williams has consistently transformed young beginning dancers into graceful and dynamic performers of tap, ballet and modern dance, and presented them on stages such as Carnegie Hall for the world to enjoy. After viewing their inspired choreography, all will be amazed with the incredible concentration of talent Ms. Williams' ensemble presents.

Native American Storytelling
Expert storyteller, Lonnie Harrington, brings the traditions of the Native American peoples of the Eastern United States and the Caribbean to colorful life. The audience will learn greetings from seven different Nations, hear stories from various traditions, and participate in some of the social dances practiced by many of the Native American People of North America. Highly informative and educational without losing any entertainment value, Harrington is great asset for all teachers of Native American culture. Can be tailored to any age.

Billingual Storytelling
Be delighted by the wonderful tales told by Sandra Rodriguez, master bilingual English/Spanish storyteller. She uses fables to instill confidence, encourage imagination, and teach life lessons to young students. Music, props and a variety of voices make these highly interactive stories from Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean come alive! With a host of stories at her command, Rodriguez can rouse the imagination into solving mysteries, emphasize the benefit of cooperating with others, and celebrate the importance of fairness and honesty. Included in her large and varied repertoire is her signature rendition of Juan Bobo and Brer Anansi: Stories of Fools and Tricksters. Appropriate for grades K-5.

Multicultural Storytelling and Multi-Instrumentalist Music
The Multi Afrakan Cultural Ensemble brings the talents of husband and wife Cheza Oriolla and Ayodele Maakheru together to offer audiences a truly creative learning experience. Their entertaining and inspiring shows are presented in a multitude of languages and teach of African and world culture through poetry, dance, storytelling and acrobatics. Cheza Oriolla introduces and instills multicultural awareness and appreciation in A Journey Through the Rainbow, her marvelous array of tales from around the world. Through stories from sources as diverse as the Temne people of Africa and the countryside of Japan, Cheza Oriolla finds common ground in the universal ideas of cultural diversity, empowerment, self-love and strength of the imagination. Cheza Oriolla's tales are very interactive, and employ puppets, masks and musical accompaniment. Ayodele brings instruments and songs of the world to his audience. As a musician, teacher, performer, songwriter and singer, Ayodele plays the guitar, ukelele, harmonica, djembe drum, and mandolin, and will amaze the crowd with his knowledge of the histories of these diverse instruments.

International Storyteller
With wonderful wit and wisdom, Tammy Hall takes audiences around the globe to hear new voices and learn the diverse tales of many nations. Using her black southern rural heritage as her inspiration, Tammy's stories are delivered in a truly unique style that is true to her upbringing. Having sat at her father's knee and learned stories galore, Tammy is now delighted to weave her magic with audiences everywhere. A former schoolteacher, Tammy can spin tales appropriate to any age. Her travels across the world have brought her into contact with a tremendous number of people whose influences are obvious in her stories. Tammy educates and enlightens in a very special way, offering programs from world culture holiday celebrations, to magical sea creatures, to Halloween scary stories, to whatever you desire!

African American Folkloric Storytelling
Fabulous tales come alive as the audience helps to shape the story Daniel Carlton is creating. By taking classics and moving them to an urban setting, Daniel turns Jack and the Beanstalk into Mailk and the Collard Green. Through his interactive stories, Daniel draws on his own African-American roots and explores matters like self-discovery, the value of friendship, creating and achieving goals, lessons learned through mythology, and peace through sensitivity. Also available is his signature Celebrate Kwanzaa show that teaches audiences both the history of this celebration and how its principles can be used to honor family and self.

African American Theatre
This Harlem-based theatre company offers a dynamic repertoire of storytelling and musical performances with the goal of introducing original African American works and working with at-risk youth. In "Fabulous Folktales In You", they spin international tales to immerse audiences in different cultures, teach problem solving, and introduce global morals. "Chewin' the Fat on Life" tells the untold stories of urban America's "underclass," based on personal interviews and presented through prose, storytelling and song. Get into the groove with A Bit 'a Soul, an R&B and Jazz exploration of great musicians from Strayhorn to Quincy Jones to Stevie Wonder, in terms of their music and social history. You can count on Blackberry to tell a story through song, music, dialogue and dance in a most entertaining and educational way! Can be tailored to all ages.

Theatre
Award-winning playwright and director Candido Tirado brings his touching and important piece "Momma's Boyz" to audiences of middle school age and older. This dramatic story tells of three friends from the projects who make a questionable decision to sell drugs to get their hands on some quick money. The outcome is tragic, but a mysterious and magical force intervenes giving them a second chance to revisit that decision. "Momma's Boyz" is an uplifting and unique tale about decisions, choices and consequences with a mesmerizing cast that will teach an important lesson and keep all audiences tuned in. Interdisciplinary Theatre/Circus Arts
Outstanding Moscow Circus Veterans will entertain and educate about circus arts. These masters have built the world famous New Way Circus, and share a unique, multicultural view from the standpoint of true teachers. Audiences will be amazed at the tricks and stunts performed by these seasoned artists, teachers to the amazing children that make up the official Russian American Kids Circus, brought to you by the Berenchtein and Partigul families. These professional artists aim to bring an art to children that can allow them to focus on positive, challenging activities that encourage the discipline to build skills. Multicultural Theatre
New York Artists Unlimited is one of the leading multicultural theatre companies in the tri-state region. A self-contained touring company, NY Artists Unlimited is dedicated to bringing innovative theatre to under-served audiences. Puppetry Theatre
Narrated and set to some of the world's most beautiful music, Hudson Vagabond Puppets uses rod puppets, body puppets, and the Japanese style of Bunraku (puppeteers dressed in black hold the puppets in front of them) to bring tales like "The Snow Queen", "Oniroku & Momotaro", "The Peach Boy", "Jemima Puddle-Duck", and "Peter and the Wolf", to life. By incorporating larger than life puppets and a musical sensibility perfectly suited for creating a pleasing environment, Hudson Vagabond Puppets have been able to establish themselves among the most sought after puppetry arts ensembles in the nation. Theatre
Actor/writer Jonathan Davidson presents his extraordinary one-man show, "The Bitten Apple", as a response to the tragedy of September 11, 2001. In his performance, Jonathan portrays a number of ethnically diverse individuals, with radically different views and one thing in common- they are New Yorkers. Although each character is presented separately, watch them evolve and their stories intertwine as they deal with post 9-11 events. An important piece for our times.

Multicultural Shakespeare and Historical Theatre
New Perspectives is an energetic, multicultural theatre company that offers a wonderful introduction to the world of Shakespeare in addition to offering historical tales that explore foreign cultures and reenact historical events. Utilizing both traditional and modern settings and costumes, their "Shakespeare Made Simple" program presents performances such as "Shakespeare's Villains" and "Shakespeare's Leading Ladies" to introduce the major characters in a variety of the Bard's works for grades 5-12. The folk tales presented by the company feature stories of heroism and empowerment using entertaining combinations of puppets and live action, for younger grades, K-4. The portion of New Perspective's repertoire that centers on tales of cultural and historical significance include the story of Harriet Tubman's Underground Railroad in "Steal Away: The Living History of Harriet Tubman", and the internationally flavored The "Bad Birthday" of Mexico and "The Big Mouth Mouse" of Japan. Shakespearean Theatre
By setting Shakespeare's sonnets and soliloquies to such musical styles as Jazz, Latin, Pop, and Gospel, Shakespeare Sings uses a fun and exciting new way to introduce the famous Bard to audiences of all ages and cultural backgrounds. Two professional vocalists, a selection of woodwinds, and a pianist teach the audience different musical styles, while letting them get to know and appreciate the work of Shakespeare from a novel perspective.

Poetry
Created by writer, publisher and educator JADE!, Poets On The Move will introduce you to some of the hottest and most well respected young poets of New York City. These talented individuals are authors, musicians, documentarians and educators, and have appeared on radio, television and stages all over the city and beyond. You will be moved and excited at how they tackle issues like urban youth, the African diaspora, relationships, human rights, and life in general. Be part of this SLAM, as the audience is invited up to speak their mind!

Improvisational Theatre
Fabulous introduction to the inventive art of improvisational theatre! Strike Anywhere does performances on the spot with just a cue from the audience, or uses improvisation in rehearsal to create a show. Stories are created and acted out through dance, mask-work, music and more, while employing some of the finest artists in New York City. Included in the offerings of this dynamic ensemble is Spin, a truly innovative theatrical piece that features a sign language made up of more than 700 gestures, called Soundpainting™. This incredible new technique allows a conductor to shape an improvisation while it is in motion and provides for a thoroughly entertaining and unique experience. Also offered is Ten Brecht Poems, a vaudevillian look at the horrors of war and the importance of solidarity through Brecht's poetry, in conjunction with North American Cultural Laboratory.

Films To Go presents audiences with historical and culturally relevant movies that deal with important social issues. The selection of films covers a variety of themes from biographies on historical figures to stories that reflect real life situations. Films range from Hughes' Dream Harlem, a film that covers the essence, spirit and works of the bard of Harlem, to TwoTowns of Jasper, an important and powerful film that analyzes race, experience and perspective, and Kayla's Story, a powerfully moving piece detailing the harsh realities of teen pregnancy. Each film screening will be followed by roundtable discussions led by filmmakers, producers, cast members or other individuals who are associated in some way with the particular film or its theme. Entertaining yet socially relevant, Film To Go films present the ideal way to open dialogue on the issues and concerns that directly affect today's youth.

Puppetry/Historical Theatre
Using inventive script, colorful costume, puppetry, stilt walking, song and more, NACL is a wonderfully multi-talented company that delivers a truly unique form of art. Whether taking audiences on a trip through time where they are introduced to some of the most important historic figures that existed – including Albert Einstein and Leonardo DaVinci, in "The Time Cycle" - or partnering with the Strike Anywhere Performance Ensemble to examine the horrors of war and the importance of solidarity through Brecht's poetry, in 10 Brecht Poems, NACL offers a number of interactive pieces that appeal to both younger and older audiences. Puppetry theatre appropriate for grades K-6. Brecht appropriate for grades 9 and up.

Theatre
This Queens based arts company, with Co-Artistic Directors Warren Lehrer and Judith Sloan, tells the stories of the "uncelebrated" using documentary and expressive forms of presentation. Their award-winning multimedia project, "Crossing the Blvd: strangers, neighbors, aliens in a new America", tells the stories of new immigrants and refugees in Queens, New York — the most ethnically diverse locality in the United States. Another program, "listen/dream/see/taste/smell/touch/home/here", presents monologues, dialogues, and movement theatre pieces based on interdisciplinary workshops with teenagers from over 40 different countries in the New York City public schools in collaboration with NYU students. It looks at young people's dreams, fears, conflicts, and their thoughts on war, peace, America, and communication across culture, language, religion and generations. Appropriate for grades 7-12.

Urban Theatre
Recovering addicts of Daytop Village, a noted nation-wide drug treatment and prevention program, are the performers of the critically acclaimed dramatic piece, "The Concept". In this internationally known performance, created by Obie winning Director Lawrence Sacharow, the cast members reenact their lives both before and during treatment, and explain the factors that led to their addictions (peer pressure for example), the results of abusing drugs (jail and depression, among other things), and finally how with love, self-esteem and hard work they are able to turn their lives around. By sharing both their fall and recovery, in a production that features dialogue and hip-hop rhythm and music, the actors of Daytop Village prove that the human spirit can move any mountain. Appropriate for Grades 7-12.

As the title suggests, this piece is a savory sensory infusion of percussion, poetry, prose, and storytelling by contemporary wordsmiths. An interactive educational tool exploring themes of identity and community and which are designed to spark reflection and creative responses from participants.
